"Pores, Fibers, and Clamped Points: Forming High Resolution Solutions of Small Structures in Fluids"

Abstract:

I will describe two applications of fluids at small scales: suspensions of rigid bodies and flow inside a porous media. Methods for simulating suspensions of rigid bodies without introducing stiffness and avoiding contacts will be described. Then, statistical averages of these suspensions will be computed. Next, methods for simulating erosion in porous media flow will be described, and measurements of the resulting geometries will be computed. Finally, in the small pore limit, a method that uses a clamped PDE model will be described. This is joint work with Lukas Bystricky, Nick Moore, and Alan Lindsay.
